MEET THE TEAM:
President - JoAnn Speer - FBO Manager for McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport (MKL) in Jackson, Tennessee, which is the Start for the 2019 Air Race Classic. She began flying later in life when circumstances required her to take a different path and she seized the opportunity to fulfill her life-long dream of becoming a pilot. She is a CFI ASEL and her passion is introducing women and youth to aviation. She is a member of the Ninety-Nines, Inc., International Organization of Women Pilots (past Memphis Chapter Chair), IAC member and Honorary Lifetime member of IAC Chapter 27, AOPA, Women in Aviation International, she serves on the Tennessee Aviation Association Executive Board (former 2-term President) and has served as the Volunteer Executive Director of the Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame. In 2012, she received the Tennessee Airport Manager of the Year Award. Besides aviation, Jo Ann's other passion is volunteering for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in the quest to finding a cure.
Treasurer - Terry Carbonell: Terry is an avid air racer with the Air Race Classic, a Bahamas Aviation Ambassador, a member of the 99s International organization of women pilots (Paradise Coast Chapter & SE Section Governor), EAA, NAFI and AOPA. She is CFI-I for ASEL.
Vice President - Mary Wunder: Mary is a retired Air Traffic Controller with over 26 years experience. Mary has been a commercial instrument rated pilot for more than 25 years. She is a member of the 99s and spearheaded the quest to raise $1 million for the endowment fund. Mary was successful in her quest in July 2014, having passed the $1 million mark. Mary is also an avid air racer and tireless volunteer for various aviation events and organizations. We welcome Mary's enthusiasm and "can do" spirit.
Secretary - Ellen Herr: Ellen is a 30+ year pilot ASEL, a member of the 99s (Paradise Coast Chapter, immediate past Chair) and Fort Myers Flying Club and a volunteer with Pilots-n-Paws and Angel Flight. Ellen is also an air racer, forming the "better half" of Team Wild Mama.
Scholarship Chair - Marie Grein: Marie is a former educator, having spent 25 years as an elementary school Aerospace educator. She is a long time pilot and member of the 99s (Suncoast Chapter; former Southeast Section 99s Governor 2005-2007). Marie still gives tirelessly to educating young people in the aviation field.
