The schedule is set and the volunteers are gearing up for the 2016 "No Limits" Girls Aviation Program. We have partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties for this 6 month event. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! Our schedule is as follows:
January 23rd: John H. Dickerson BGC – Introduction to aviation program and Breaking through the Clouds documentary. Sixty-three girls from the Volusia and Flagler Counties area joined in for the introductory program. After viewing the film, we made paper airplanes for a distance contest. It was fun to see how well some of the girls launched paper airplanes all the way across the room. We also did relay races, labeling the parts of an airplane. The day concluded with all of the girls and the Unit Directors reciting their "tail numbers" - birthday and initials using the phonetic alphabet. Pictures from the day can be seen HERE.
February 27th: ERAU – Bee Haydu (WASP) to participate and do her program for the girls; Career Day -professionals from ERAU will talk to the girls about various aviation industry jobs.
Over 40 volunteers from ERAU Daytona, the Daytona Beachin' Eagles Chapter 99s, and other 99s came together to produce a spectacular career day for the 56 girls who attended the days event. After an informative talk by Bee Haydu about her days as a WASP and her aviation career, the girls broke into groups and toured he University visiting the different labs and learning about the various professions associated with each lab. The labs included: Flight simulators, Wright Brothers flyer, Weather lab (including playing with the "green screen"), ATC lab, High Altitude lab, Aviation Safety lab, Engineering lab and suborbital space flight lab. Pictures of the days events can be seen HERE.
